Section 163 Enforced in Kamrup Metro as Authorities Tighten Rules for Peaceful Polling
Digital Desk: In view of the upcoming Assam Legislative Assembly elections, prohibitory orders have been imposed in Kamrup Metropolitan district under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 to ensure a peaceful and orderly voting process.
Considering the need to maintain public peace, safety, and stability, the District Commissioner and District Election Officer of Kamrup Metropolitan has issued this order, exercising powers under the said section. The directive urges citizens to maintain law and order and comply with the following restrictions to ensure free and fair elections:-
- Assembly and movement of five or more persons in public places, roads, and streets is prohibited (except near polling stations during voting hours, where certain relaxations may apply).
- Election campaigning, public meetings, and rallies are banned from 5 PM on 7th April.
- Entry of political leaders, party workers, and campaigners from outside a constituency, who are not voters of that constituency is prohibited.
- Use of loudspeakers on any vehicle is banned from 5 PM on 7th April until 5 PM on 9th April
- Setting up of campaign offices or booths within 100 meters of polling stations is strictly prohibited.
The order has been issued ex-parte in view of the prevailing situation and will remain in force from 5 PM on 7th April until 5 PM on 9th April , or until the completion of polling.
Violation of this order will attract punishment under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023.
