Digital Desk: Spain's President Pedro Sanchez tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday and has withdrawn from the G20 Summit in India's capital, New Delhi.

Sanchez wrote on X, "This afternoon I tested positive for COVID and will be unable to travel to New Delhi for the G20 Summit. I feel fine."

The President said that Spain will be represented by First Vice President Nadia Calvino, Minister of Economic Affairs, and Minister of Foreign Affairs, EU, and Cooperation.

It should be noted that Sanchez is the third world leader to confirm his absence from the G20 Summit in Delhi, following China President Xi Jinping and Russia President Vladimir Putin.

Meanwhile, US Vice President Joe Biden left for India on Thursday (local time) to attend the G20 Summit.

Biden took Air Force 1 from Andrews Air Force Base to India for the 18th G20 Summit, which will be held on September 9 and 10 at the state-of-the-art Bharat Mandapam Convention Centre at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi.

Notably, India is hosting the G20 Summit for the first time, and the event will be attended by world leaders and delegates from a variety of countries, including UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Canada Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, France President Emmanuel Macron, Japan Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, Australia Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and many more.

The stage is ready for the G20 Summit to take place in the national capital at the newly opened Bharat Mandapam.
