The airline stated earlier this week that it would soon introduce more 737 Max planes, after which the pilots who have been placed on a three-month leave of absence without pay would return to duty.

Digital Desk: SpiceJet announced on Thursday that it will increase the salary of its remaining senior pilots by 20% starting in October after placing roughly 80 pilots on three months of unpaid leave. Senior pilots are in more demand as a result of the high compensation offered to hire them by newly established airlines Akasa Air and redesigned Jet Airways.

For the past four years, SpiceJet has reported losses. Since July 27, it has only run less than 50% of its scheduled flights, as directed by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) because of safety infractions.

Gurcharan Arora, senior vice president of flight operations for SpiceJet, wrote in an email to pilots, "Keeping with our commitment of increasing salaries in a calibrated manner as our business improves, the salary for the month of October will see an increase of around 20% for our captains and senior first officers."

He claimed that the airline is aiming to raise the pilots' starting pay. The pay that our line captains got last month increased by six percent.

The government's ECLGS (Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme) programme has approved a loan for SpiceJet. "The payment has already been made in its first tranche (for the loan made under the ECLGS), and the second tranche is on its way. Our management is attempting to raise $200 million more "explained Arora.

The airline stated earlier this week that it would soon introduce more 737 Max planes, after which the pilots who have been placed on a three-month leave of absence without pay would return to duty.

In FY19, FY20, FY21, and FY22, SpiceJet suffered net losses of Rs 316 crore, Rs 934 crore, Rs 998 crore, and Rs 1,725 crore. It lost Rs 729 crore in the first quarter of FY23.
