Digital Desk: Former India opener Sunil Gavaskar finally spoke out about the Virat Kohli-Gautam Gambhir incident that dominated proceedings at the Ekana stadium on Monday when the Royal Challengers Bangalore faced the Lucknow Super Giants. Claiming that what happened was uncalled for, Gavaskar suggested that Kohli and Gambhir be suspended for a few games.

"Well, I just saw the visuals; I didn't watch the match live yesterday. These things are always unpleasant. What is a 100% match fee? What exactly is a 100 percent match fee? If it is Kohli, who is on about 17 crore for RCB, it implies 17 crore for a possible 16 matches, comprising the semi-finals and finals. So you're talking about a crore of rupees. Is he going to be fined one crore or more? "Well, that's a very, very hefty fine," Gavaskar said during a conversation with Star Sports.

"So, my point is, do something to ensure that these things never happen again. If it comes to it, like it did with Harbhajan and Sreesanth ten years ago, you may have to ask them to sit out a few games. Make sure you do something to prevent these things from happening, which are also harming the team. That's a tough one," he added.

Meanwhile, RCB won by 18 runs, keeping their playoff hopes alive. Both Kohli and Gambhir were fined for violating the IPL Code of Conduct.
