Digital Desk: This year's recipients of the Union Home Minister's Medal for Excellence in Investigation were 151 police officers from various states, union territories, and governmental organizations on Friday.

28 women out of the total awardees received the medal.

According to a news statement from the MHA, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) received 15 of the 151 awards, followed by the Maharashtra Police with 11, the Madhya Pradesh Police with 10, the Uttar Pradesh Police with 10, and the Kerala Police with eight.

The other states and union territories received the remaining. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) staff members also received five awards medals.

According to the ministry, awards given to police officers are given in order to "encourage high professional standards of crime investigation and to acknowledge such Excellence in Investigation."

The eligible officers' recommendations, whose positions ranged from head constable to superintendent of police, were made in February of this year.

It is important that candidates submitted for consideration have a good representation of women.

Awarded annually on August 12th, the Union Home Minister's Medal for Excellence in Investigation was established in 2018.
