The Bajrangi Bhaijaan actor was found guilty of breaking the Wildlife Protection Act by a trial court...

Digital Desk: Jodhpur builds a grand memorial in memory of the blackbuck killed by Bollywood actor Salman Khan. It is being constructed in Kankani village. The deer statue will soon be installed in the village.

Salman Khan was charged with hunting down chinkaras in September 1998 in Bawad, Mathania, near Jodhpur. While filming Sooraj Barjatya's film "Hum Saath Saath Hain," Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Tabu, and Neelam were also seen hunting two blackbucks.

In the same month, when the shooting of the movie was going on at the Ghoda farms, Khan was accused of killing a second Chinkara.

The Bajrangi Bhaijaan actor was found guilty of breaking the Wildlife Protection Act by a trial court. The Bollywood actor was sentenced to five years in prison and a fine of Rs 25,000.

The Rajasthan High Court suspended the actor's sentence from his conviction in 2007. The high court also withdrew the Arms Act charges after hearing his appeal.

He was eventually sentenced to five years in prison but is currently out on bail. Except for him, all of the other accused in the case were found not guilty.

Locals hope that by making this move, they will raise awareness about wildlife and the environment.

The Chinkara statue is huge, built of iron and cement, and weighs around 800 kg. It was created in just 15 days by Jodhpur-based artist Shankar.

The horns on the idol were made of real deer rather than cement or iron. The statues were created by bringing horns from the carcass of a dead deer found in the forest.
