The authorities have urged passengers to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately


Digital Desk: Guwahati,4th August, 2025: In a swift and coordinated operation, the Crime Prevention and Detection Squad (CPDS) of the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Guwahati, apprehended three notorious ToPB (Theft of Passenger Belongings) criminals and recovered six stolen smartphones, including a Samsung mobile reported missing just a day prior.


This case arose as a consequence theft complaint filed on August 2, 2025,by a passenger travelling by Train No. 12423 DN, who reported  the loss of their Samsung mobile phone while boarding at Guwahati Railway Station (GHY) as a case that was registered on 2nd August , 2025. After watching the CCTV videos, two suspicious men were seen deboarding the train. . Successful RPF officers set a trap in time.


Both suspects were found and arrested early morning of 3rd August 3, 2025, at the Guwahati Railway Station Yard. The two, during interrogation stated that they were Sukur Ali (25) and Asar Ali (23) and residents of the Barpeta in Assam. They  confessed to the robbery and claimed that they sold the stolen phone to a familiar receiver, Hasan Sheikh (23) who lived close to Lakhtokia gate No. 2.

Six android smart phones made by different brands

Estimated values : : ₹80,000


All the three suspects were transferred to OC/GRP/GHY to face more court procedures. Such a case has been lodged as GRP/GHY Case no. 115/2025 dated 3rd  August 2025 under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023 sections 305(C)/317(2)/3(5).


The authorities has advised travelers to be alert and call the police in case something unusual happens.
