Digital Desk: Three members of the banned Popular Front of India (PFI) have been apprehended in Nagarbera, Assam's Kamrup district.

Hitesh Ch. Ray, Superintendent of Police (SP) in Kamrup, acknowledged this.

"Three members of the banned PFI were nabbed from Nagarbera on Thursday night after conducting a drive in the region," he said. Another PFI associate has also been apprehended."

Hafijur Rahman, Nazrul Islam, and Rafiqul Islam have been identified as those arrested.

Rafiqul Islam is said to be the President of Samoria Anchalik Panchayat.

Notably, the Central Government banned PFI, its associates, and affiliates as an unlawful association with immediate effect under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, for a term of five years in September.

The notification stated unequivocally that the ban was imposed on PFI and its associates, affiliates, or fronts for "engaging in unlawful activities that are prejudicial to the integrity, sovereignty, and security of the country and have the potential of disturbing public peace and communal harmony in the country and supporting militancy in the country."
