Digital Desk: A major water supply pipe burst has been reported in Guwahati city. This incident happened in the Kharguli area of Guwahati.
Reportedly, one woman died and several more were injured in the pipe burst.
The burst caused thousands of liters of water to gush out of the pipe's leaked section with tremendous force.
The brute force of the water washed away many vehicles.
Around 40 houses were damaged in the incident.
The injured were immediately sent to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The burst occurred when valves were opened to test the water supply through the newly installed pipes. However, a source claims that a portion of the pipe where the burst occurred was not newly installed.
It was, in reality, an old pipe installed by Gammon before JICA took over the project, the source claimed. The pipe was reportedly installed in 2018–19 and tested at the time.
People who have been affected by the incident have expressed anger.
They demanded reimbursement from the GMDA for the damage to their property.
