Guwahati: The newly joined Trinamool Congress leader, Sushmita Dev is likely to lead the party in Assam, sources said.


Earlier, Raijor Dal Chief Akhil Gogoi was offered to lead the Trinamool Congress party in Assam. However, the report said, Akhil Gogoi refused to join lead the party, the reason for which is not disclosed till now.


The second-best choice for Trinamool Congress Supremo Mamata Banerjee happened to be Sushmita, whose father, Santos Mohan Dev, was a Union Cabinet Minister in the Rajiv Gandhi Led government and Sushmita, is steady in the Bengali-dominated Barak Valley. In 2019, Sushmita won the Silchar seat in the Lok Sabha election.


Additionally, Sushmita Dev was the President of the Congress party’s women’s wing.
