Digital Desk: To avoid any "anti-social activity," the district administration of Assam's Sivasagar implemented section 144 of the CrPC and a night curfew along the district's border with Nagaland on Friday (April 8).


According to ANI, the restrictions will be in effect for the next 60 days or until further notice. From 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., any movement of people, groups, and motor vehicles is prohibited within a 5-kilometer radius of the border. According to the government, offenders would be prosecuted under section 188 of the IPC.


According to the news agency, gatherings of five or more people in public places, meetings, processions, dharnas, rallies by a group of individuals or organisations, sticking any kind of posters, banners on any wall, the boundary of government, semi-government, or private residents, and writing obscene or derogatory words and slogans are all prohibited during this time.

The warning stated that rear riding on two-wheelers has been prohibited due to the risk of anti-social and extremist actions, such as shooting, murder, kidnapping, or extortion.


Furthermore, the district administration has prohibited the manufacture and sale of plastic carry bags with a thickness of less than 50 microns and the sale of tobacco goods within the district.

Who is exempted from the ban?

The prohibition orders do not apply to those over the age of 60, children under the age of 12, women, government employees, or police officers.
