Digital Desk: Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said on Friday that the winter session of Parliament would be held from December 7 to December 29. He made the announcement on his official Twitter account.

In a tweet, he said, "Winter Session 2022 of Parliament will commence from 7 December & continue till 29th December having 17 sittings spread over 23 days. Amid Amrit Kaal looking forward to discussions on Legislative Business and other items during the session. Looking forward for constructive debate."


Reportedly, the first day of the upcoming winter session is expected to be cancelled due to the deaths of sitting members. Mulayam Singh Yadav, the patriarch of the Samajwadi Party, was among the sitting MPs who died recently.

"As Covid numbers have decreased dramatically and most members and staff of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha Secretariat are fully vaccinated the session is likely to start without any major Covid-induced constraints," sources said. 

It is important to note that Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, who is the chairman of the Rajya Sabha, will preside over proceedings in the Upper House for the first time during this parliamentary session.

The central government will draw up a list of bills to be passed during the next session during this session, while the opposition will demand a discussion on pressing issues, ANI reported. 

The monsoon session began on July 18 and ended on August 8. The session had 16 sessions spread across 22 days.

During the most recent session of Parliament, a total of six Bills were introduced in Lok Sabha. The Lok Sabha passed seven bills, and the Rajya Sabha passed five. One bill was pulled. During the session, both Houses of Parliament passed a total of five bills.
