Digital Desk: Pooja Malang, the woman accused of beheading her mother in Lalung village in Deramukh, West Karbi Anglong, has died.
The incident dates back to the night of April 22, when Pooja Malang allegedly attacked her mother, Anumai Malang, with a machete while she was asleep, resulting in her decapitation.
During the time, she also inflicted injuries upon her father, Premendra Malang, and her sister.
Following her arrest, she was being held at Hamren District Jail.
Late at night, she reportedly fell ill, prompting jail authorities to transport her to Hamren Civil Hospital.
As her condition became critical, she was referred to Nagaon Civil Hospital for better treatment, however, she was declared dead upon arrival.
While her family members have travelled to Nagaon, the community's reaction remains stern.
Villagers of Lalung have collectively refused to perform her last rites, citing the gravity of the crime committed against her own mother.
According to the family, Pooja Malang's death was the result of complications related to epilepsy.
Her body currently remains at the Nagaon Medical College morgue.
