Digital Desk: In a shocking incident, a 22-year-old woman named Shobha Majhi was raped and murdered in Dibrugarh's Bakul Majgaon Sapori Line. The accused man was identified as Varun Mura of Lahowal Timona, who was reportedly in a relationship with Sobha.
The 22-year-old victim had been missing since January 9. The naked body of Shobha Majhi was recovered on January 13 from the Sessa river.
The floating body of the woman was discovered by the locals of Sessa River. According to the locals, they found multiple injury marks on the body.
Suspect Varun Mura is still absconding while thousands of people demand justice and the arrest of him.
Protests erupted in Dibrugarh as people accused the police of negligence and failure to arrest the accused. The locals chanted 'Police Murdabad' slogans to voice their outrage at the crime.
The protesters demanded justice outside the Lahowal Police station. The protesters said that it was a murder and they demanded a proper investigation against the culprit.
The deceased woman's sister said that Shobha received a phone call from Varun Mura on January 9 and left the home. But she did not return and her body was found 5 days later. She also mentioned that Varun was her sister's lover.
