Digital Desk: The tragic incident took place at the Duliajan oil field, where a worker tragically lost his life after an iron pipe suddenly fell on him.
The deceased worker, Kiran Gogoi, a resident of the Sasoni Gethupathar area of Naharkatia, died while on duty due to the unfortunate incident.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Sunday night at the NHK number 40 oil field located in the Bahdhari area of Naharkatia.
The incident, which took place at the oil field managed by private contract company Asian Drill Tech, seriously injured another worker, identified as Mohan Sonowal from Tengakhat, alongside Kiran Gogoi.
The workers at the oil field immediately rescued both injured workers from the site and rushed them to the Duliajan Oil India Hospital for treatment.
However, Kiran Gogoi was declared dead by doctors, while Mohan Sonowal was referred to the Assam Medical College & Hospital in Dibrugarh for advanced treatment.
Meanwhile, the Oil Drilling and Production Workers' Union has criticised Asian Drill Tech for allegedly using old equipment for oil drilling operations.
The oil authorities are expected to provide compensation to the family of the deceased worker as well as to ensure the safety of the contract workers' lives.
