Digital Desk: Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) leader Lalduhoma is poised to take the oath as the Chief Minister of Mizoram on Friday, Raj Bhavan sources said today. Lalduhoma, a former IPS officer and security in charge of the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, secured a decisive victory in the recent assembly polls, with ZPM capturing 27 out of the total 40 seats.
Having met with Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati today, Lalduhoma formally staked his claim to form the government. The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Raj Bhavan, as confirmed by trusted sources to the Press Trust of India.
"Lalduhoma will be sworn in as the Chief Minister on Friday at a function to be held at Raj Bhavan at 11 am," the sources told Press Trust of India.
In a post-poll meeting with the newly elected party candidates, Lalduhoma discussed the formation of the council of ministers and the allocation of portfolios. ZPM's triumph marked the end of the Mizo National Front's (MNF) incumbency, as they secured only 10 seats in the assembly polls.
With a significant voter turnout of over 82% on November 7, this marks a significant political shift in Mizoram's landscape. The BJP secured two seats, while the Congress managed just one, trailing behind the resounding success of the Zoram People's Movement.
