Digital Desk: On the 79th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation from the iconic Red Fort after hoisting the national flag, accompanied by a 21-gun salute and the national anthem. Beginning his address at 7:45 AM, PM Modi delivered the longest Independence Day speech in the country’s history—lasting a record 103 minutes
In his address, the Prime Minister touched upon a wide range of topics, including India’s defence capabilities, economic reforms, and new employment initiatives. He praised the success of Operation Sindoor, commending the armed forces for their valour and issuing a stern message to Pakistan, declaring that India will not bow to nuclear blackmail. He also launched Mission Sudarshan Chakra that focused on enhancing the defence of India and coming up with sophisticated weapons systems.
The biggest point of the speech was that the new GST reform was announced, which will be in place by Diwali. . These reforms aim to reduce the prices of essential commodities and ease the financial burden on Indian households. Moreover, PM Modi announced the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rojgaar Yojana which is a new job scheme to increase job creation and to grow economically.
Another issue that the Prime Minister responded to was historical issues, 50 years since the Emergency. He strongly condemned the suppression of democracy during that period, calling it a dark chapter in India’s constitutional history that must never be forgotten.
On the eve of Independence Day, President Droupadi Murmu also addressed the nation. She paid tribute to freedom fighters and emphasised India with economic strength, 6.5 percent GDP growth and projects such as Make-in-India and Atmanirbhar Bharat. Talking about Operation Sindoor, she referred to it as the example of brightness in the war of man against terrorism.
