Digital Desk: On 29th August , Union Home Minister Amit Shah virtually inaugurated India’s second National Cyber Forensic Laboratory (NCFL) – North East, located at the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy in Dergaon. The inauguration was done from the Raj Bhavan premises in Guwahati during Shah’s two-day visit to Assam. The lab has been established at a cost of ₹45 crore.
The NCFL–North East is designed to be a cutting-edge facility for digital investigation and cyber forensic analysis. It will specialize in mobile and network forensics, damaged media data recovery, OSINT (Open Source Intelligence), and cryptocurrency-related investigations. During the inauguration, Amit Shah spoke of the significance of the lab by saying, Cybersecurity is one of the key pillars of Digital India. The initial NCFL was established in Delhi in 2019, and we have established the second one in Assam to intensify our against cyber fraud.
The facility will serve as a training and operational hub for police officials from all eight northeastern states, significantly enhancing the region's capacity to combat and investigate rising cybercrime. Being among the most sophisticated digital forensic centres in the Northeast, it is set to have a central role in empowering the law enforcers to deal with new cyber threats.
During his visit, Shah also inaugurated the newly constructed Brahmaputra wing of the Raj Bhawan and laid the foundation stones for multiple development projects for ITBP, SSB, and Assam Rifles, including housing complexes, hospitals, and barracks.
Earlier in the day, he performed 'Gau Pujan', offered prayers inside the Raj Bhawan temple, and planted a Sindur tree. He was welcomed by Governor Laxmi Prasad Acharya and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Shah will also attend the birth centenary celebrations of Golap Borbora, Assam’s first non-Congress Chief Minister and noted freedom fighter.
