The Assam Badminton Association (ABA) will host the ASMITA City Badminton League across four districts of Assam from 20th August
Digital Desk: The ASMITA City Badminton League, a women centric sporting league is all to take off in Guwahati on 20th August , under the banner of the Assam Badminton Association (ABA). The inaugural leg will be take at Kanaklata Indoor Stadium, RG Baruah Sports Complex and move to four districts of Assam till 30th August .
ABA Secretary Omar Rashid officially announced the league on August 18, highlighting that the competition will feature matches exclusively in the women’s singles category. This tournament will be divided into three age categories; Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19.
Following the leg in Guwahati, the league will shift to Sivasagar (August 24--26), Jorhat (August 26--28) and finally Murkongselek (August 28--30).
It is organized with the support of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the Badminton Association of India, through the ASMITA initiative- Achieving Sports Milestones by Inspiring Women through Action. This is a project under the Khelo India scheme to make more women take to sports in India.
ASMITA is envisioned as a platform to identify and nurture grassroots-level women athletes, and guide them to transcend their struggle and make their entry into professional sports. The City Badminton League is expected to be a significant step in empowering young female shuttlers in Assam and beyond.
