Digital Desk: In a significant step towards enhancing the welfare of state government employees, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has unveiled a new insurance scheme aimed at providing substantial financial support for employees and their families in the event of accidents or untimely deaths.

Following a recent cabinet meeting, the Assam government has approved an agreement with all banks to ensure that insurance premiums are directly deposited into employees' salary accounts. This move is intended to offer timely and efficient financial assistance.

During a press briefing in Lakhimpur, Sarma emphasized that the scheme is designed to protect state employees who may suffer from accidental deaths or disabilities, whether permanent or partial, while on duty. The insurance will cover accidents resulting from road mishaps, fires, floods, and other disasters.

"Many state employees face life-threatening risks in their line of duty. This scheme ensures their families receive essential financial support in case of accidental deaths or injuries," said Sarma.

Under the scheme, families of employees who suffer accidental deaths will receive a payout of Rs 1 crore. The same amount will be provided in cases of permanent disability, while Rs 80 lakh will be awarded for partial disabilities. Additionally, in cases of death due to illness, an extra Rs 10 lakh will be credited to the family’s account.

"This comprehensive coverage provides a critical safety net for our employees, in addition to the existing benefits offered by the state government," Sarma added.

This significant initiative reflects the government’s commitment to the well-being and security of its employees and their families.
