A direct benefit transfer (DBT) initiative to offer rehabilitation grants to beneficiaries whose homes were damaged by this year's floods was inaugurated on Saturday by state chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
CM Sarma, during a press briefing at the Janata Bhawan in Guwahati, stated, "A list of 2,04,348 families who were either severely or partially destroyed in this year's flood has been created. These families who lost their homes will get the rehabilitation money immediately into their bank accounts. Rs 119.11 crores have been approved for this."
The programme will provide the affected families with a grant to their bank accounts to help with house reconstruction.
A total of 5,185 homes have been seriously or completely damaged, according to CM Sarma, while 34,924 pucca homes and 1,53,326 kutcha homes have suffered partial damage. The remaining homes are huts and cattle sheds.

The chief minister further declared that the water had entirely destroyed the homes of 309 households. The Chief Minister's Relief Fund would give each of these families an additional Rs 1 lakh in September, Sarma said.
