Cachar: Following an appeal from Cachar’s Guardian Minister Ashok Singhal and Minister Parimal Suklabaidya, the locals of Lailapur withdraw the economic blockade at the Assam-Mizoram border from Sunday.

Earlier, on Saturday, Minster Parimal Suklabaidya and Minister Ashok Singhal visited the interstate border in Lailapur, asking them to withdraw the economic blockade for the restoration of peace and tranquility on the inter-state border.

Reportedly, while the ministers were engaged with a discussion with Trucker’s Association, the public pelted stones and damaged two trucks.

Superintendent of police Ramandeep Kaur with a police team rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Often, Assam Government claimed that there was no official economic blockade, the vehicles were not moving due to fear of attack from Mizoram’s side.

“The locals and some organizations had stopgap to an unofficial economic blockade in the interstate border with Mizoram after the Assam-Mizoram clash on July 26.”

Minister Ashok Singhal tweeted, “Met the representatives of civil society in presence of Minister Parimal Suklabaidya at Lailapur civil post……. discussed on facilitating smooth movement of goods and transportation in border area maintaining peace.”
