Sivasagar: In another case of a police encounter, during a misfire by a police official, a drug mafia was gunned down on Saturday night at Samguri. Reportedly, the drug mafia attacked the police official and his driver while trying to escape from custody.
Acting on a tip-off, the Khatwal police busted a drug racket and arrested the drug mafia identified as Khairul Islam from Geruamukh.
Police officials asserted, Khairul Islam, while trying to flee from the custody, attacked Sub Inspector Alok Dutta Gupta and injured his driver.
“In his defense the sub inspector shot at Islam and he died at the spot during the misfire.” Police official added.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
