Digital Desk: In a meeting with the Mayor of Guwahati, Mrigen Sarania, and the Commissioner of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), MN Dahal, a delegation from the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) stated that the Opposition party would not support outsourcing tax collection for the civic body to any private firm. The local authority made a mistake by issuing a tender in this respect without first consulting the council members and city people, the GMC Commissioner conceded before the delegation, and the APCC was informed via a statement. The Commissioner further stated that the GMC and not the State Government issued the pertinent procurement in August, according to the APCC statement.

The delegation informed the Commissioner that the GMC Act allows for citizen participation in the property tax assessment process through the formation of ward committees, according to the statement. According to the APCC statement, the delegation asked the GMC Commissioner and Mayor to improve the effectiveness of the civic body's revenue branch and handle tax assessment and collection on their own. The delegation included Manjit Mahanta, head of the APCC's media wing, Meera Borthakur Goswami, president of the State Mahila Congress, Ramen Borthakur, and Kushal Kumar Sarma, spokespeople, as well as Swapan Kumar Das, head of the Guwahati city district unit.
