Digital Desk: According to an analysis of 54 studies
involving 1.2 million Covid-19 patients from 22 countries, 6.2% of them still
had at least one of the three long-lasting symptoms three months after the
acute infection started: persistent fatigue accompanied by physical pain or
mood swings, cognitive difficulties, or ongoing respiratory issues.
After accounting for health state prior to Covid-19, the estimated proportion having at least one of the three self-reported lengthy symptom clusters was 3.2% for cognitive issues, 3.7% for persistent respiratory problems, and 3.2% for persistent fatigue with physical pain or mood swings.
44 of the 54 studies were published, with 10 collaborating cohorts (conducted in Austria, the Faroe Islands, Germany, Iran, Italy, the Netherlands, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland, and the US). Data was collected from March 2020 to January 2022.

Corresponding Author Theo Vos from the University of Washington's Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation stated that because the longest follow-up among the included studies was 12 months, the true long-term pattern of symptom persistence for long Covid-19 will only be revealed as studies conduct longer follow-up.
