The Kashmir Files' lifetime profits of 340 crores have already been surpassed, making this the highest-grossing Hindi movie of the year.

Digital Desk: Part One of the Brahmastra: Shiva has resumed his original course. The movie's domestic box office receipts dropped dramatically for four days in a row, but in its second weekend, they started to rise again. The movie's big 50 percent increase in receipts on its second Saturday, September 17, in India, raised hopes for a strong lifetime run. In terms of worldwide box office receipts, it surpassed The Kashmir Files to become the highest-grossing Hindi movie of the year.

The Ayan Mukerji movie, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, reportedly made between 15.5 and 16 crore rupees net on Saturday across all Indian languages, according to trade sources. The movie's lowest single-day total to date was Thursday's earnings of slightly over 9 crore and Friday's earnings of 10.5 crore. This brings its total domestic net revenue just shy of 200 crore. Its overall revenue is also getting close to the 350 crore threshold. The Kashmir Files' lifetime profits of 340 crores have already been surpassed, making this the highest-grossing Hindi movie of the year.

The movie's net domestic take currently ranks second among all Hindi movies released this year, surpassing Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 with Kartik Aaryan, which brought in 185 crore in India. Brahmastra is currently trailing The Kashmir Files, which had net receipts of 252 crore and was directed by Vivek Agnihotri, in that list. It is to be taken into account that The Kashmir Files’ budget of 15 crore was a mere fraction of Brahmastra’s overall budget.

Trade analysts have stated that although the Sunday spike may not be as large as it once was, even a slight increase would give the movie a chance to record a second weekend total of at least 40 crores, which is a very healthy number. This weekend's lack of large releases has benefited the movie, and that trend will likely continue the following weekend. In fact, until Vikram Vedha and Ponniyin Selvan arrive on September 30, Brahmastra won't really have any competition at the Indian box office. If everything goes according to plan, the movie should join the 300-crore club domestically.

However, given the film’s huge 410-crore budget, the number may not be enough to call it a sure-shot hit. A lot of factors need to weighed in for that. But one thing is clear the film has managed to get people back into the theatres, which many big Bollywood films had failed to do earlier this year.
