Digital Desk: Lakshya Sen of India advanced to the final of the Canada Open, a BWF Super 500 event, after defeating Japanese competitor Kenta Nishimoto in the semifinals on Sunday. Sen defeated Nishimoto in straight games in the semifinals of the Canada Open in Calgary, his first appearance in a BWF World Tour Final in over a year.
Sen, the 19th-ranked player who was knocked out of the world's top ten, defeated the 11th-ranked Kenta Nishimoto in consecutive games, 21-17, 21-14.
He took 44 minutes to get the upper hand on his opponent, eventually winning the match 2-1.
Lakshya will take on the winner of the second semifinal match between Kodai Naraoka and Li Shi Feng. Although the 22-year-old has had some good wins in the Canada Open against some elite competitors, the championship game marks a significant turning point in his recovery.
