CM Vigilance Department’s decision to approach the High Court underscores the gravity of the charges
Digital Desk: Fresh trouble mounts for ACS officer Nupur Bora, as the CM Vigilance Department has filed a petition in the High Court challenging the bail granted to her by the Special Judge’s Court. Bora, who had been in judicial custody for 56 days, was granted bail on Tuesday under strict conditions that she would cooperate fully with the investigation, refrain from contacting witnesses, and not leave the area without court permission.
However, just after a day on Wednesday, the CM Vigilance Department pressed a chargesheet against Bora, of 1,254 pages, showing grave charges of the possession of disproportionate assets in the form of 458.64 per cent than her known sources of income. The case was filed on 58 days after her arrest under Case No. 25/25.
As per sources, that the Vigilance Department is asking to have her bail cancelled on the ground that her release would have a potential negative impact on the ongoing investigation. Authorities insist that the custodial interview of Bora might still be necessary to determine how far her assets go and and the sources of her wealth.
The fact that the CM Vigilance Department had decided to go to the High Court in order to address the seriousness of the charges and its resoluteness to see a proper investigation on the so-called corruption incident is telling.
One of the top officials in the Vigilance department assured that the department has good documentary evidence to back up their claims and that the petition filed in High Court is being sought as a part of preventing any interference with the investigation.
The High Court is expected to hear the Vigilance Department’s plea for bail cancellation soon. The case has drawn widespread attention, highlighting the government’s renewed push for accountability and transparency within the administrative service ranks.
