Havana: Cuba has started vaccinating children above two years
with COVID-19 vaccine jabs starting from September 2. It is the first country in the world to vaccinate children below the age of 6.

According to reports, Cuba has started inoculating children with its home-grown jabs which are yet to be recognized by the World Health Organization(WHO). Earlier on 2 September, the country had started vaccinating children above 12 years of age after completing clinical trials on minors with Abdala and Soberana vaccines.

According to reports, Cuba’s home-grown vaccines have not undergone scientific peer review.
Meanwhile, the schools in Cuba are expected to open from October end or November and the Cuban government is planning to vaccinate all the infants before schools reopen.

The schools are closed since March 2020 when the first case of COVID-19 was reported in the country.

Earlier, the WHO regional office for Europe and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) appealed to the countries to vaccinate the teachers and staff involved in managing schools as early as possible. It also asked the authorities concerned to make schools a safe place by following all the COVID safety measures.
