  • US President Donald Trump refrained from claiming credit for averting a potential war between India and Pakistan

Digital Desk: US President Donald Trump refrained from claiming credit for averting a potential war between India and Pakistan.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office after hosting Pakistan's Army Chief General Asim Munir, Trump stated that "the two very smart leaders" from both nations had independently chosen to de-escalate tensions.

Trump revealed that he invited Asim Munir to the United States to express his gratitude for refraining from escalating war with India.

He added that the US is currently working on trade agreements with both India and Pakistan.

Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Asim Munir as "very smart people", Trump expressed his satisfaction that the leaders of India and Pakistan opted to step back from a conflict that had the potential to turn nuclear.

Trump had repeatedly claimed credit for helping to settle tensions between the two countries following their decision to stop armed military conflict on May 10.
