Digital Desk: Assam police arrested three interstate drug peddlers and recovered a large number of drugs, including 1.50 lakh Yaba tablets worth Rs 42 crore, on Thursday from the Kamrup districts of Assam.
Based on special input, a team of Kamrup district police led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Kalyan Pathak conducted an operation in the Jirighat area along with the Assam-Manipur border and confiscated 500 grams of heroin and 1.50 lakh Yaba tablets.
Superintendent of Police (SP) of Kamrup district, Hitesh Ch. Roy, said that the shipment was scheduled to be sent to Bangladesh via Guwahati and Bengal.
"We confiscated 500 grams of heroin and 1.50 lakh Yaba tablets from a truck, and detained two Manipur residents. We also detained a West Bengali who had come to accept the shipment. All total three people have been arrested so far in connection with this," Hitesh Ch. Roy stated.
The detained individuals were identified as Fero Khan and Ilias Khan, from Manipur, and Saddam alias Saminul Hoque, from Cooch Behar, West Bengal.
The recovered drugs are valued at roughly Rs 42 crore in the foreign market, the senior police officer said.
Further, he added that the operation was supervised by Guwahati's Joint Commissioner of Police, Partha Sarathi Mahanta.
