Digital Desk: Nagaland Police, early in a dramatic late-night operation, arrested a man who was posing as a Sub-Inspector of Assam Police at Watiyongpang check gate in Mokokchung district. The individual is identified as Dipankar Gogoi, who hails from Hatimuria village in Amguri, Sivasagar district, Assam. He was caught smuggling a large quantity of liquor while wearing a police uniform and driving a vehicle and driving a vehicle falsely marked as a police car.
According to a statement issued by the Additional Superintendent of Police & PRO, Mokokchung, the incident took place at approximately 12.30 AM on 15th July. Dipankar was driving a white Indica (registration number AS 03 H 9220) with the inscription of POLICE written prominently on the windscreen. Upon inspection, the police discovered a significant quantity of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) concealed inside the car.
The seized items include:
- 2 cartons of MC Rum (750ml)
- 12 cartons of MC Rum (180ml)
- 1 carton of AC Black Whisky (180ml)
- 4 cartons of Kingfisher beer
Currently, Dipankar Gogoi works as a driver at the Assam Fire and Emergency Services headquarters in Panbazar, Guwahati. Despite his real job, he was dressed in a police uniform at the time of the arrest and falsely claimed to be an Inspector with the Assam Police.
The Mokokchung Police have registered a regular case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Motor Vehicles Act, and the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act. The case is being investigated, and authorities are investigating the scope of the impersonation and liquor smuggling operation.
