Digital Desk: A tragic road accident on National Highway 27 in the Dima Hasao district claimed the life of a 37-year-old driver and left his handyman critically injured on Friday night.

The accident occurred at Kalachand, under the jurisdiction of the Maibang Police Station.

The vehicle, a Bolero pickup (AS31 C 5409), was travelling from Silchar toward Lanka when the driver reportedly lost control, causing the vehicle to veer off the highway.

The driver, identified as Iftikar Hussain, a resident of Bamun Gaon in Lanka, died on the spot.

According to his family, Ifitikar was returning home after delivering a shipment of vegetables to Silchar.

The handyman of the vehicle was critically injured and was initially admitted to Maibang Civil Hospital.

Due to his critical condition, he was later referred to a facility in Hojai for advanced medical treatment.

Maibang Police informed the deceased's family, who arrived at the scene shortly after the mishap.

The incident highlights the growing safety concerns on the Lamding-Silchar stretch of NH-27, which has become increasingly accident-prone.

This fatality follows another recent tragedy on May 2, where a 25-year-old youth, Shubham Bauri, lost his life in a similar accident near Hatikhali Forest Gate.
