Digital Desk: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for several states, including Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, and Odisha, as they brace for a scorching heatwave over the next two to three days. With parts of the country already sweltering under intense heat, government agencies have issued health advisories, and some states have even suspended classes to protect residents from the extreme weather conditions.

In its latest weather bulletin, the IMD warned of "intensely hot conditions" persisting in the south peninsular region for the next five days.

Additionally, an orange alert has been issued for parts of Telangana, Karnataka, and Sikkim, indicating high temperatures and potential heat-related risks.

The severity of the heatwave is evident in the soaring temperatures recorded across affected regions. Andhra Pradesh's Kalaikunda and Kandala reached a scorching 45.4 degrees Celsius, well above normal, while Nandyal city witnessed temperatures hitting 45 degrees Celsius.

Similarly, Odisha's Baripada recorded 44.8 degrees Celsius, followed closely by Sheikhpura in Bihar at 44 degrees Celsius, underlining the widespread impact of the heatwave gripping the country.
