Digital Desk: IndiGo has signed a record purchase for 500 Airbus A320 family aircraft, breaking Air India's mega-470 aircraft contract with Airbus and Boeing earlier this year. It is the greatest single aircraft acquisition by any airline with Airbus, according to the company. IndiGo has become the world's largest A320 Family client with this order.

The airline stated that the engine selection and exact mix of A320 and A321 planes will be done in due time.

The purchase deal was signed on June 19, 2023, at the Paris Air Show 2023, in the presence of leading airline and Airbus officials.

When combined with the prior purchase of 480 aircraft, IndiGo's order book now stands at nearly a thousand aircraft, according to a statement from the airline. The deal would provide IndiGo with a constant stream of deliveries between 2030 and 2035, according to the company.

"The fuel-efficient A320NEO family aircraft will enable IndiGo to maintain its strong focus on lowering operating costs and delivering fuel efficiency while maintaining high reliability standards." The young and fuel-efficient fleet would assist IndiGo achieve its environmental goals, expanding on the 21% CO2 reduction achieved between FY16 and FY23', it added.
