Imphal: Security forces operating in Manipur have successfully apprehended a self-styled Lance Corporal associated with the proscribed Manipur Naga People Front (MNPF) during a targeted operation in Imphal West district. Officials confirmed the arrest of Siro Wungta, also known as Ronaldo, 24, a resident of Tarong Village in Kamjong district.
The apprehension took place on June 22, near the ISBT Gate at Khuman Lampak, falling under the jurisdiction of the Imphal Police Station. Security sources indicated that this operation is an integral part of broader, ongoing security measures designed to uphold law and order and actively counter insurgent activities in the state's vulnerable regions.
The state has seen a significant increase in security presence, with forces conducting extensive search operations and area domination exercises across numerous fringe and sensitive locations throughout Manipur's districts. These intensified efforts have also led to the recovery of various arms and ammunition, though specific details regarding the quantity and nature of these items have not yet been publicly disclosed.
Further bolstering security arrangements, authorities have established a total of 112 nakas and checkpoints strategically placed across different districts of Manipur, encompassing both the hill and valley regions.
