Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today revealed that a substantial 17.6 per cent of households across the state are now enjoying zero electricity bills, a direct outcome of the Centre's flagship PM Surya Ghar-Muft Bijli Yojana. The Chief Minister highlighted this achievement as a testament to the transformative impact of the renewable energy initiative.
Speaking via a post on social media platform X, Sarma underscored how the installation of rooftop solar panels under the central scheme has not only significantly eased the financial burden of electricity expenses for thousands of families but also propelled Assam's transition towards a cleaner energy future. "Seventeen-point-six per cent of Assam’s solar households have paid zero electricity bills," Sarma stated, emphasizing the tangible benefits reaching citizens.
The Chief Minister further noted that Assam stands among the top five states nationwide in the effective implementation of the PM Surya Ghar-Muft Bijli Yojana. He elaborated that the initiative is delivering crucial dual advantages: enhancing economic security for households through reduced utility costs and bolstering the state's overall energy independence by enabling residents to generate their own power.
This remarkable progress aligns with the broader national agenda to promote sustainable energy solutions, with Assam playing a leading role in adopting green technologies at the household level. The success in achieving such a high percentage of zero-bill households demonstrates the scheme's potential to drive both environmental sustainability and economic empowerment across the region.
