According to the family sources, the murder was meticulously planned by the victim’s son and wife. The deceased’s mother and brother have alleged that Rupa Saikia had been subjecting her husband to daily torture amid ongoing family disputes.

Digital Desk: In a shocking development from Simaluguri, Chutiakari area of Lakhimpur District, police have arrested Rupa Saikia and her son Nipon Saikia for allegedly murdering Satyawat Saikia, who was also known as Pramen Saikia, an officer serving in the 13th Battalion.

According to the family sources, the murder was meticulously planned by the victim’s son and wife. The deceased’s mother and brother have alleged that Rupa Saikia had been subjecting her husband to daily torture amid ongoing family disputes.

While speaking to reporters outside Lakhimpur Police Station, the victim's brother said that Saytawat Saikia had been suffering silently for years due to his wife.

Police officials confirmed that both suspects were taken into custody shortly after the incident was reported.

An investigating officer of the case said that the accused have been detained and investigations are underway. The case appears to be domestic discord, he added.

The victim’s body has been sent to the Lakhimpur Medical College for post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death.

In an unusual decision reflecting the family’s anger and grief, relatives have barred the accused wife from entering the matrimonial home. Furthermore, they have decided to conduct the last rites in the courtyard of Satyawat’s house, a symbolic gesture signifying their rejection of the accused’s connection to the family.

Neighbours described Satyawat as a quiet and dutiful officer who rarely discussed his domestic problems with outsiders.

Authorities expect to file formal charges once the post-mortem report is received.
