Guwahati: Assam government to submit its proposal for the National Mission on Edible Oil-Oil Palm (NMEO-OP) to the Center by next week, said Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Additionally, the CM Sarma stated that the Assam government would benefit from the centre’s new plan to palm oil production.

CM Sarma made the statement during a video conference with Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, DoNER Minister G Kishan Reddy and the Chief Ministers of Northeastern states on agriculture and horticulture-related issues in the regions.

Moreover, CM Sarma asserted Assam has 350 hectares of oil palm cultivation in Goalpara, Bongaigaon and Kamrup (R) districts. 

Last month, the Union Cabinet announced a new Mission on Oil palm named National Mission on Edible Oils-Oil Palm (NMEO-OP) as a new Centrally sponsored scheme. The Mission will focus on the Northeast region and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The total revenue allocated for the upcoming Mission is Rs 11, 040 crores, out of which the northeastern region will be allocated Rs. 5,850 crores
