Digital Desk: Morigaon police has successfully dismantled a human trafficking network involving a woman named Sebika Das from Silchar, who has been arrested.


Along with her arrest, three teenage girls, allegedly trafficked to Tamil Nadu, were rescued.

The rescued minors were brought back to Morigaon today by the police. Reports indicate that the case was initiated 10 days ago when the guardians of the missing girls filed a complaint at the Jagiroad police station.


Acting promptly, the Morigaon police launched an operation to locate and rescue the victims.


Led by Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mun Saikia and with the cooperation of the Tamil Nadu police, the operation was successfully conducted in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.


Investigations revealed that the accused, Sebika Das, had deceived the minors with false promises of employment and attempted to exploit them for immoral activities in Tamil Nadu. Currently, Sebika Das is undergoing intensive interrogation by the authorities.


During a press conference today, Additional Superintendent of Police, Crime Branch, Samiran Baishya, provided updates on cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 (POCSO).


He revealed that in 2025, 128 POCSO cases were registered in Morigaon district, with convictions achieved in 65 cases.  


The conviction rate for POCSO cases in Morigaon in 2025 was the highest in Assam.
