Digital Desk: A Delhi court has granted seven days of police custody to the four individuals arrested for breaching security at the new Parliament building. The accused—identified as Manoranjan D, Sagar Sharma, Amol Shinde, and Neelam Devi—were presented before the Special Judge for NIA cases, Hardeep Kaur, by the city police.
The prosecution, seeking a 15-day custodial interrogation, charged the individuals under the anti-terror law UAPA along with various sections of the Indian Penal Code. However, the court decided to remand them in police custody for seven days.
The security breach occurred on the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attack when Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan D leaped into the Lok Sabha chamber from the visitors' gallery. They unleashed yellow-colored smoke from canisters and shouted slogans, but were eventually overpowered by MPs and watch and ward staff.
Simultaneously, Amol Shinde and Neelam Devi, the other two accused, sprayed colored gas and shouted anti-authoritarian slogans outside the Parliament premises. All four were promptly taken into custody. Vishal, their alleged accomplice, was detained later in Gurugram, while Lalit Jha, identified as a key conspirator, remains on the run.
The incident has raised concerns about the security apparatus at the new Parliament building, prompting authorities to review and strengthen the existing measures to prevent future breaches.
