Digital Desk: As a part of the Pongal festival, Jallikattu ( a traditional bull-taming sport) began in Tamil Nadu amid the Covid-19 surge all over the state and the nation.
The first bull-taming event was held in the Pudukottai district with severe Covid protocols.
Jallikattu is steered as part of Mattu Pongal, the third day of the four-day-long reaping celebration. The Tamil word 'mattu' represents the bull, and the third day of Pongal is devoted to cattle, a key partner in farming.

A sum of 300 bull tamers and 600 bulls were recorded on Thursday. The organizers assigned a time structure per tamer. The victor is determined based on the course a tamer carries on the hump of the bull.
According to new Covid-19 guidelines, not more than 150 viewers are permitted, and venues' occupancy is restricted at 50 per cent. In addition, a negative Covid report or Covid vaccination is even obligatory to watch Jallikattu events.
However, sources stated that the district authorities found it challenging to control the mass as more than 150 individuals came to see the traditional sport.
