Digital Desk: The hit and run case accused, Rajkanya Baruah, who injured eight PWD workers and killed one, Joseph Marak on October 2 2021, has been granted bail today by the Gauhati High Court.

The 29-year-old model, who was involved in the October 2 accident that wounded nine people, had been arrested by police. She was charged with attempting to commit culpable homicide under Section 308 of the Indian Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of seven years in jail, a fine, or both.  Baruah was granted bail just 24-hours after she caused the accident at GS Road, near Rukminigaon, on the night of October 1. According to the medical board, she did not have a critical or acute ailment that required her to be admitted to a hospital. The medical team found in the report that she was fit to appear before the investigating officer and did not need to be hospitalised after an hour-long medical examination in the presence of DCP Shubhrajit Bora. “Various clinical scores were applied APACHE & RTS was applied to the clinical and biochemical reports which does not fit to keep her into a ICU setup/Medical admission. Blood investigations are within normal limit. In view of the above findings, she is fit to appear before I/O for the needful and does not require any hospitalization,” read the GMCH medical examination report. As per reports, Dispur Police station filed a chargesheet of only 6 pages.  On November 10, Wednesday morning, Joseph Marak, the victim in the accident involving former Femina Miss India winner Rajkanya Baruah, died from his injuries at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital. As per GMCH officials, septic developed all over Marak’s body who had already lost both his legs in the accident.
