Digital Desk: A Renowned music artist Syed Sadullah, a revered figure in Assam’s cultural and musical heritage, passed away at 10:33 AM today at the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where he had been undergoing treatment. His demise marks the end of an era in Assamese music, leaving behind a legacy cherished by generations of admirers.
The veteran artist had been suffering from Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL), hypothyroidism, and pneumonia with pleural effusion. The medical staff confirmed that he had hypoxia-related complications as well, which caused the severe respiratory distress.
His condition got worse and he was put on ventilator support and his health was closely observed by the doctors. Despite all medical efforts, he breathed his last this morning in the GMCH ICU.
Just a few days ago, on October 25, Sadullah had joyfully celebrated his 78th birthday with his family. He is survived by his wife and two daughters. As per hospital guidelines, GMCH will bid his last farewell to the dead artist and then his mortal remains will be transported to his native place, in Dibrugarh where his janaza ( funerary prayer ) will be held tomorrow.
Born on February 1, 1948, in Dibrugarh district, Syed Sadullah was a multifaceted talent, a singer, lyricist, and former presenter at All India Radio, Dibrugarh. Known for his soulful voice and heartfelt compositions, he played a pivotal role in enriching Assamese music and culture.
In a final act of generosity, Sadullah donated his corneas, reflecting his lifelong spirit of giving. His passing has thrown both the music fraternity and music lovers in Assam into an undertold state of mourning real sense of the end of a golden era in Assamese music.
