Golaghat: A Rhino poacher linked in several rhino horn trade cases and animal poaching at Kaziranga National Park has been arrested on Sunday.

The accused, identified as Rahimuddin, was arrested when he surrendered before the Deputy Conservator of Forests (DFO), Ramesh Kumar Gogoi.

 Recently, the accused was granted anticipatory bail in another case of rhino poaching.

After bail, Rahimuddin came to Kaziranga DFO office to surrender himself for another poaching case.

Forest officials asserted, “Rahimuddin, a resident of Nilbagan, Hojai district, was involved in many cases of rhino poaching and rhino horn trade.

Recently, in an assembly session, Assam’s Environment and Forest Minister Parimal Suklabaidya stated, “Since 2017, the poachers have killed 22 one-horned rhinos in Assam.”

In 2017 nine one-horned rhinos were killed, seven in 2018, three in 2019, two in 2020 and one in 2021, added the minister.

Moreover, the government statistic claimed, till June 1 this year, 644 poachers have been arrested, and more than 25 cases were registered against them.
