Digital Desk: Sania Mirza, a trailblazing Indian tennis player, lost in the mixed doubles semifinals of this Wimbledon tournament to the reigning winners Neal Skupski and Desirae Krawczyk.

On Wednesday night, sixth-seeded Mirza and her Croatian pair Mate Pavic lost 6-4 5-7 4-6 to Skupski of Great Britain and American Krawczyk.

Mirza, the most accomplished female tennis player from India, is 35 years old and has six Grand Slam victories, three of which she earned in mixed doubles. To complete the Career Slam, she wished to compete in mixed doubles.

She and Mahesh Bhupathi won the Australian Open's mixed doubles competition in 2009. She and Brazilian Bruno Soares won the French Open championship in 2012.

Mirza and Pavic, who have each won many Grand Slam tournaments, dominated the opening set with their strong serves.

Mirza, a six-time Grand Slam champion, had declared that she would put her racquet away after the conclusion of the 2022 season.

The 35-year-old Indian star and Martina Hingis took home the women's doubles title at Wimbledon in 2015.
