Digital Desk: An engine of a grounded SpiceJet Q400 caught fire on Tuesday evening at the Delhi airport. As per the officials, both the aircraft and maintenance staff are safe. According to a SpiceJet spokeswoman, a fire warning was seen in an engine of the Q400 aircraft that was undergoing repair, and the fire extinguisher was activated.

The spokesperson also said that the fire brigade had been called as a precaution and that both the aircraft and the maintenance staff were safe. According to a spokesperson for the airport, a fire was reported in one of the grounded plane's engines around 8 p.m., and it was later put out.

"On July 25, SpiceJet Q400 aircraft under maintenance, while carrying out engine ground run at idle power at bay, the AME observed fire warning on #1 engine," the airline's spokeswoman said in a statement.

Q400 is a turbo-prop aircraft.

The airline operates Q400s with seating capacities of 78 and 90 passengers, according to its website. The day before, the DGCA, the aviation regulator, announced that SpiceJet had been removed from its enhanced surveillance programme.
