Digital Desk: Even as politicos join in the mega ‘Surya Namaskar’ initiative, as part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Centre’s aim to achieve the challenge of 75 crore sun salutations by February 20, is facing lot of flak.
The ‘Surya Namaskar’s initiative has drawn the ire of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, who has unequivocally opposed ‘Surya Namaskar’ stating that this exercise is a way of worshiping the sun and Islam does not allow it.

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board has opposed government’s directive that were issued on the occasion of completion of 75 years of Independence.
Hazrat Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani, General Secretary, All India Muslim Personal Law Board enumerating the fact that the India is a secular country and that the Constitution allows each individual to follow their religion freely, said, “India is a secular, multi-religious and multi-cultural country.
Our constitution has been written on the basis of these principles. The constitution does now allow us to do this. Teachings of a particular religion should be given in government educational institutions or celebrations should be organized based on the beliefs of a particular group.”

The Ministry of AYUSH had launched the Surya Namaskar program with an aim to create a culture of fitness and promote a healthy lifestyle through the practice of Yogasana.
Union Minister of AYUSH, Sarbananda Sonowal while laying the foundation stone of the Heartfulness International Yoga Academy in Hyderabad, said, “75 crores Suryanamaskar challenge’ aims at creating the largest congregational Surya Namaskar event. Each participant will be receiving a certificate upon completing the 21-day Suryanamaskar Challenge.
