From the stands, 1,250,307 people watched Australia defeat an unbeatable Indian team in the final in Ahmedabad...

Digital Desk: The Men's ODI World Cup in India made history by becoming the most-attended cricket event ever, with over 1.25 million people attending the matches. The 2023 edition broke the attendance record set by the 2015 Men's ODI World Cup, demonstrating India's fervent support for the sport.

The attendance of nearly 1.25 million fans sets a new record in cricket history, outnumbering any other ICC event. The 2015 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup in Australia and New Zealand drew 1,016,420 spectators, while the 2019 edition in England and Wales drew 752,000 fans to watch the ODI World Cup.

The official attendance at the Narendra Modi Stadium for the grand final between hosts India and eventual victors Australia was close to 100,000.

Throughout the tournament, India's matches drew large crowds at each of the country's nine sites. Non-India audiences were also impressive, as Indian cricket fans silenced critics who questioned a few empty stands at the outset of the tournament.

From the stands at India's ten stadiums, 1,250,307 people watched the World Cup 2023 matches. The tournament, which ran from 5 October to 19 November, had the highest attendance for a Men's Cricket World Cup opening match when England faced New Zealand in a rematch of the 2019 final, followed by the most attended India-Pakistan match in ICC World Cup history on 14 October, when fans flocked through the gates.

The World Cup in India, predictably, surpassed several broadcast and internet viewing records. The official broadcaster's live streaming platform, Star Sports, reached a peak of 4.3 crore views during the match between India and New Zealand in Dharamsala, a record that was broken throughout the semi-final and final.

The next ODI World Cup will be campaigned in South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe in 2027, while the West Indies and the United States will host the T20 World Cup the following year.
