Digital Desk: Assam has witnessed a high deck of atrocities by police in recent times. You were introduced to incidents where the state's youths have suffered for raising voices and fighting for truth. It seems like truth and rights have been violated with slow claps behind the bushes of power-oriented heads and their buzzes.
Lately, police authorities have opened fire on Nagaon College's former general secretary Kirti Kamal Bora for questioning their actions. However, despite making a proper probe into the matter, the government has indicated that Kirti Kamal will be under police custody right after he gets released from the hospital.
On this note, several organizations of youths in the state have staged protests against the government. Similarly, on Thursday, Assam Pradesh Youth Congress president Angkita Dutta and other committee members protested at Rajib Bhawan in Guwahati.

During the protest, it was witnessed that police officials have dragged Angkita from the barricade and forced her to move inside the police vehicle. Angkita was also held under police custody for raising their voice against the tragic incident of police firing on youth leader Kirti Kamal Bora.
It is not essential to know which government is in power or which party is protesting. What matters the most is reflecting that youths of the nation are not allowed to raise voices. Is this what we call the largest democracy in the world? Is this what we feel proud of?
Just a day after India has celebrated 73rd Republic Day, such an incident of the forceful arrest of APYC president Angkita Dutta for raising her voice against police atrocities has put fundamental rights under suspicion.
Assam has witnessed police encounters in strings in the last few days. Assam's chief minister stated that police authorities should keep hawk eyes upon all illegal movements in the state. In such a scenario, the government should establish an autonomous police unit to investigate the case of police firing Kirti Kamal Bora.
However, such steps were not seen to be taken under consideration by the government. Rather, those who were raising voices against the wickedness in the state were put under threat and bars.
If such an incident continues to occur in the state, very soon, the rights of the people will be pared. The youths of the state will fear the atrocities of authorities. In such a manner, the truth will hide behind the evils of those who rule.
Does democracy now only mean to abide by the government and not criticize it? Are we actually residing in a country where freedom of speech and expression are the fundamental rights of the citizens?
